Final Solution
Project Statement
The Jack Johnson and Friends Sing Alongs album was created for the Curious George soundtrack, so the original album cover was created around Curious George the character. This new album design was made to be more diverse and appealing to not only Curious George watchers, but all children and parents. One of the earlier designs in the drafting process was chosen, as it was simple and unique while still being fun. The color palette is similar to the original album, but with deeper tones of yellow and red, creating a unique contrast. The typeface on the front of the album is handwritten, showing a playful solution. The children holding hands are used to show that the album appeals to all different ages and genders. The front and back covers are designed to be inviting, not overwhelming, and as the album is opened, a much busier, fun, and chaotic zoetrope becomes visible, one that kids will be entertained by for the length of the album.

Thought Process

The goal of this album cover was to be appealing for both children and adults. I chose to go with one of my first front cover designs, as the simplicity of it kept it appealing, while still communicating the childish theme of happy, playful, and fun.

Again, I kept the back cover simple, but fun. Keeping it consistent with the front cover was achieved by using the same or similar elements. I went back and forth between several different iterations, but in the end decided on this one as it creates an interesting reading order while being legible and “flowy”.

The album label was trickier for me, I had many iterations. My final solution leaIs on the side of informational, keeping it legible for not only adults, but also children. It was important for me to come up with a solution that was creative yet still both readable and legible.

The zoetrope was interesting. Finding a solution that both worked when creating a GIF and was aesthetically pleasing/well balanced was difficult. My solution was to incorporate elements from songs within the album and my original artwork from the front cover design. The use of musical notes emphasizes the fun and playful music that the album contains.
